Shelter homes are at the heart of HSP’s mission. Children from impoverished families living in slums or tea plantations are often exposed to neglect, early marriage, abuse, domestic violence, and even the risks of organ or sexual trafficking. In our nine social homes, they find a safe, caring, family-like environment. They receive food, healthcare, accommodation, schooling—and above all, love.
Our schools welcome children from disadvantaged families. Through our informal schools (with adapted curricula), we offer a second chance to the many children who drop out of the formal education system. Our specialized schools support children with disabilities, helping them develop autonomy and essential life skills.
Health is another major priority for HSP. One of our programmes supports 600 young mothers living in the slums, providing guidance throughout pregnancy, preventing malnutrition—which remains widespread in India—and monitoring infant growth and development. Our physiotherapy and psychotherapy services support children with disabilities and their parents, helping improve overall family well-being. We also provide assistance to elderly people, who often rely on regular food rations.
For adults and young adults, including those with disabilities, HSP offers vocational training and adapted workshops such as farm work and the creation of batik and jute handicrafts. These programmes help individuals gain autonomy and find their place in society. HSP also supports and encourages high school students to pursue further education through a dedicated programme.
