Across West Bengal, especially in and around Kolkata, many children from disadvantaged backgrounds face extreme poverty, malnutrition, unsanitary slum conditions, and a lack of access to education and healthcare. Deep social and economic inequalities hinder their development and often deprive them of a stable future.
Faced with this reality in Kolkata and other regions, HSP has been committed since 1976 to caring for the most vulnerable. As a non-profit NGO recognized by the Indian authorities, HSP works to protect, educate, and empower marginalized children and families. We implement long-term programs that address the essential needs of the most vulnerable communities.
Our work is built on a holistic approach to human development. Every day, we act across four key areas :
HSP is a community bringing together Adivasis, Bengali speakers, Hindi speakers, Hindus, Muslims, and Christians who learn to live together, to serve, and to welcome the excluded, kindling a flame of hope in people’s hearts.

Since its creation, HSP has focused on children with disabilities—those most excluded within Indian society. Today, ensuring their care and inclusion is a priority in every action we take. Many of our homes welcome large numbers of these children, often rejected by their own families. We provide them with essential medical care, daily equipment, and access to specialized schools. Thanks to HSP, these children grow up in a nurturing, supportive, and loving environment.
The “HSP family,” as we like to call it, is made up of nearly 220 professional staff members: educators, healthcare workers, home managers, and teachers. Working hand in hand, they implement our programs every day—childcare, schooling, health monitoring, and social reintegration. Many come from the poorest communities, and their experience and determination to rise above their circumstances are a powerful source of strength and inspiration for those we support.
In the footsteps of our founder, Father François Laborde, Father Laurent Bissara of the Paris Foreign Missions oversees the management of the NGO as well as the spiritual and humanitarian dimension of the project.
HSP also regularly welcomes volunteers who provide invaluable support: family visits, workshop activities, tutoring, and guidance for young mothers.
Together, we combine our skills and dedication to give underprivileged children and vulnerable families a brighter future.
